The Alliance for
American Quilts is a non-profit organization founded in 1993 to
unite the varied elements of the quilt world around a shared
vision. This vision recognizes quilts not only as works of art,
but as pieces of history with stories to be documented and
preserved.
- International
Quilt Study
Center -
In April 1997, The
University of Nebraska&endash;Lincoln announced that Robert and
Ardis James were donating their collection of over 900 quilts to
the university. The Jameses also pledged their financial support
to create a center that encourages scholarship and nurtures the
appreciation of quilts as art and cultural history. The University
responded with a commitment by building a state-of-the-art storage
facility and established the International Quilt Study Center. The
IQSC was created to encourage the interdisciplinary study of all
aspects of quiltmaking traditions and to foster preservation of
this tradition through the collection, conservation and exhibition
of quilts and related materials.
