Units and lessons are to incorporate into existing curriculum the four strands of the grant: arts integration with a DBAE approach, technology integration, constructivist learning theory, and interdisciplinary curriculum.

All Unit Plans are to be considered "Works in Progress". As teachers reflected upon the challenges
and successes of each unit they were encouraged to return and make modifications.
Also, each teacher was at their own level in incorporating the four strands of the grant into
their daily teaching. As they grew more comfortable with each area they were encouraged to revisit
their Unit Plan and make modifications. These Unit Plans are a snapshot of where the teachers were when the grant ended.
The purpose of this unit is for students to find and accept affirmation for their identities, both as singular persons but also within the boundaries of the families of which they are a part.
Intermediate (4-6)

The purpose of this unit is for students to
(1) develop an understanding of the problems facing the world today;
(2) develop an understanding of the institutions that have been developed to solve these problems; and
(3) make decisions from the perspective of the UN member nation which they represent.
The purpose of this unit is for students to recognize and appreciate the literature produced during two tumultuous eras in America's history. Students will recognize the impacts made by historical and popular figures whose contributions during the Civil War and the Vietnam War helped heighten awareness and arouse America's social conscience.
The purpose of this unit is for students to explore how cultures are represented through the fine arts. They will research and discover cultural connections in the arts.
The purpose of this unit is for students to investigate characteristics of friendship through literature and interviews. The students will share their ideas through posters.
The purpose of this unit is for students to create an understanding of life of the Indians on the Plains during the 1800's. We will look at artworks of George Catlin and others during this time period.
The purpose of this unit is for students to become aware of the many uses, both esthetic and economic, for trees and about the conservation of trees as a natural resource. The student will become aware of the role of trees in art and the folk art of different cultures.
